Skopelos
is a Greek island in the western Aegean sea. Skopelos is one
of several islands which comprise the Northern Sporades
island group. The island is located east of mainland Greece
and Magnesia and northeast of Euboea. Skopelos is also the
name of the main port and the municipal center of the
island. The other main settlements are Glossa and Neo Klima/Elios.
The geography of Skopelos includes two mountains over 500
meters; Delphi (681m) in the center of the island, and
Palouki (546m) in the southeast. The nearest inhabited
islands are Skiathos to the west and Alonissos to the east. |

Skopelos
is a Greek virgin island with miles of white sand beaches
and trees as far as the eye can see! The island satisfy the
most demanding traveler from the honeymooners to a family
and the hospitality of the locals is unique! |
|
Skopelos
officially has 97% of the plants of the planet and 50%
of the island is covered by pine trees, olive trees etc. I
can not describe you with words the smell of the air! In the
crystal clear waters of the island you will often see the
Mediterranean seal "monahus-monahus" and beautiful dolphins
to escort you to your sea excursions. |
With its 300 monasteries, this island is mountainous with
numerous picturesque bays, golden and white sands. The town
of Skopelos is amphitheatrically built at the foot of a
mountain, with its cobbled narrow streets and courtyards
filled with flowers, it offers the visitor to this island a
rare hospitality that only the Skopelites are known for.
Skopelos also boasts a number of ruins one of which is the
9th century chapel of Agios Athanasios (or St. Athanasios)
built on the ruins of an ancient temple. There is the "Kastro",
a venetian fortress and a vantage point for wonderful views.
